Google TV Adds New Features Ahead of Google TV Streamer Launch

The new Google TV Streamer is on the way, and the company has announced several exciting features and updates that will roll out on all Google TV devices.

Beginning today, Google TV users will see the following updates across their devices:

New Feature Updates:

  • Google TV Freeplay
    • There are now 150 free channels from Google TV that come built-in with no downloads or subscriptions
    • We’re also making it easier to navigate your free channels with an updated channel guide where you can browse by genre and topic so you can quickly access free channels, including new additions like Heartland and The FBI Files
    • Availability: US
  • Sports Page
    • The new Sports page in the ‘For You’ tab brings all your sports content in one place
    • You can quickly find live and upcoming games, catch sports commentary, browse YouTube highlights and get personalized recommendations so you’re always in the loop

  • With over 270 million monthly active devices, Google TV (along with Android TV) is the number one streaming platform globally
  • New form factors and an expanded list of partner brands
    • Art TV (Hisense TCL)
    • Smart Monitor (Asus)

  • Google TV is expanding to more countries including Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines.

The Google TV Streamer will include a home panel and AI features that will also extend to the rest of the Google ecosystem. Starting at $99.99, the streamers build on the success of Chromecast and will offer users a faster and more premium 4K TV streaming experience.

Over 700,000 movies and shows will be at your fingertips, including YouTube TV, Netflix, Disney+, and Apple TV, among others. Plus, you’ll never run out of content with over 800 free channels. The streamer launches on Tuesday, September 24, and is available for purchase at the Google Store and third-party retailers.
