Google Removes Chromecast With Google TV From Amazon, Raising Questions About a Possible New Chromecast

Over the last few days, Google has been clearing out stock of the current-generation Chromecast with Google TV. No longer can you buy a new Chromecast with Google TV on Amazon; you will find offers from third parties instead. The Chromecast is still for sale at Best Buy, along with Walmart, but both are offering discounts now. The inventory shuffle raises the question of when a new model may appear.

It’s been a little more than a year since we’ve seen a new Chromecast model. Typically, Google’s streaming device gets refreshed every two years, but that doesn’t mean the company is required to stay on that schedule.

A spokesman for Google wasn’t immediately available to comment on the prospect of a Chomecast update or its status on Amazon.

This all comes after we have had multiple reports of a new Chromecast with Google TV being in the works. Last month, 9to5Google spotted a new Chromecast with Google TV remote in the Android 14 Beta. This new remote is very similar to the current remote but with a new layout. 9to5Google has a video on its website of what the new remote looks like.

Back in January, 9to5Google also found a reference to a new Chromecast in the Google Home app. According to 9to5Google, they expect this new model to be a higher-end Chromecast with better speeds than the current model on the market right now. Aside from those two tidbits, there’s been little news on the Chromecast front.

With the removal of the current generation of Chromecast with Google TV from Amazon and sales at other major retailers raises, could a new Chromecast come soon? Google missed a key window during its Fall devices event, which was largely dedicated to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones.

Google, however, has previously released new Chromecast devices after splashier events. If it wants to make the holiday shopping season, the company will have to release it fairly soon.

For now, we will have to wait and see what happens but there has been a slow buzz all year about possible new Chromecasts.
