After releasing the Nest Wifi Pro mesh routers last year, customers conducting speed tests through the Google Home app noticed “inaccurate results”. The internet speed inaccuracies were only seen with customers who had internet speeds of 500Mbps or higher. Google Nest Wifi Pro offers real-world speeds of up to 940Mbps.
The Nest Wifi upgrade will fix the internet speed test differences without having to check via another testing app, as previously recommended by Google when the issue was first noticed back in 2022.
Nest Wifi Pro’s software was automatically updated on May 15th, 2023. The new version number is 1.63.355999 and users can verify their software has been updated through the Google Home app. Under the Devices tab select your Nest Wifi Pro unit and then check which software version is currently installed by tapping the gear icon. Click here for Google’s full instructions.
The Nest Wifi Pro software release update reads:
- Fix for underreporting of internet speed test results in the Google Home app for internet connection speeds faster than 500 Mbps
- Improve mesh speed test results consistency
- General security, stability, and performance improvements
Google has updated the Nest Wifi Pro’s software before for the same issues. The last update was on November 14th, 2022 for version 1.63.324946. In that announcement, Google stated that the inaccurate testing speeds did not “impact actual system performance”, though some users found that connection issues were occurring even after that software update.
The newest Nest Wifi Pro model came out on October 27th of last year. This Nest Wifi Pro with Wi-Fi 6E promises a “smarter network” with “smoother connections” to provide faster internet throughout your home with speeds up to 5.4 Gbps. Google offers a year-long financing plan of $16.67 per month for one unit, priced at $199.99. Customers can also buy the units in packs of two ($299) or three ($399.99) for a bundle discount.
