Family Enjoying Movie Night At Home TogetherFor years many have wondered if Google would ever make its own Android TV device. When Android TV first launched, The Nexus was Google’s flagship Android TV device built in partnership with Asus. But since that died in 2018 there has been no official Android TV device from Google. Now that seems to be changing.

According to AndroidCentral, Google is working on a new Android TV device, for now called the “Hero” that will launch in 2020. (The codename “Hero” will likely change once the device officially launches). Not only that but Google will also be adding support for its new gaming streaming service “Stadia” to Android TV in 2020 with the Android 11 R. Currently you need a Chromecast Ultra if you want to play Stadia games on your TV.

Right now, we don’t know much about the new device past the fact that Google is working on it. This could be a big stand alone device from Google like the Pixel phones or a partnership with a device maker like Nvidia. Could the “Hero” device be the next Nvidia Shield?  Google does have a big event in October to announce new hardware including the new Pixel 4 phone. Yet that may be a bit early for this new “Hero” Android TV device to be announced if the release date is 2020. For now, we will have to wait and see what Google announces.
