Google Fiber (GFiber) officially flipped the switch on its high-speed internet service in Murfreesboro, TN kicking off with small businesses and promising a residential rollout soon. The rapid deployment, hailed as a model of efficiency, owes much to the city’s leadership, which embraced GFiber’s mission to deliver top-tier connectivity. “The speed with which we’ve been able to launch service in Murfreesboro is a testament to the city’s commitment to innovation and to the ease of doing business here,” a Google Fiber spokesperson said, crediting local officials for smoothing the path. Now, the city’s businesses—and soon its residents—can tap into GFiber’s offerings, marking a new chapter for this Tennessee hub.
The launch zeroes in on small businesses first, a nod to their need for reliable, fast internet. GFiber celebrated the rollout with an event at Just Love Coffee, spotlighting its Business 1 Gig ($100/month) and Business 2 Gig ($250/month) plans. The 1 Gig option suits streamlined operations, while the 2 Gig plan powers busier setups with multiple users and systems. Reeves Sain Drugstore, Murfreesboro’s hometown pharmacy and GFiber’s first small business customer, is already onboard. “At Reeves Sain Drug Store, we could not be more excited about the availability of Google Fiber for our health care operation,” said owner Rick Sain. “It’s so important for us to have the best upload and download speeds as we communicate with other health care providers, insurance companies, and credit card companies. This enables us to fill prescriptions and take care of patients in the best and most timely manner—all at the best price.”
Residential service is next, with GFiber teasing three tiers: Core 1 Gig ($70/month, per prior markets), Home 3 Gig ($100/month), and Edge 8 Gig ($150/month). These options, tailored from basic browsing to ultra-fast streaming and gaming, aim to fit every household’s needs. Sign-ups for updates are live at GFiber’s site, though exact rollout dates remain under wraps—likely weeks away, given the business-first pace. Murfreesboro joins GFiber’s 20+ U.S. markets, from Austin to Kansas City, where symmetrical gigabit speeds have challenged incumbents like Charter’s Spectrum (up to 1 Gbps down, $49.99-$89.99/mo.).
The city’s pro-business stance—echoed by T-Mobile’s Hometown Grants elsewhere—drew GFiber in, promising economic ripples. As residential lines light up, Murfreesboro’s online future looks bright—GFiber’s here, IRL and beyond, with a city ready to plug in.
