Update: X and other services are now back online.
In a major disruption to the digital landscape, many services are experienced a widespread outage early this morning, February 16, 2026, causing cascading failures across numerous online platforms. The incident, which began this morning, has left millions of users unable to access popular streaming services and social media sites that rely on hosting for their backend infrastructure.
The outage was confirmed by DownDetector according to its website.
Update #2: Amazon says AWS did not go down today, the outage on these services seems to be linked to other issues.
Streaming giants such as Disney+, and Hulu reported immediate interruptions, with users encountering error messages, frozen screens, and complete blackouts this morning in various regions. Viewers attempting to watch morning news broadcasts or binge-watch series found their apps unresponsive, leading to widespread frustration. Similarly, social media platforms including X (formerly Twitter) like its tweet deck now known as pro and more. Posts failed to load, live streams halted abruptly, and direct messages became inaccessible, amplifying the sense of isolation in an increasingly connected world.
In the meantime, alternative platforms not heavily dependent, such as YouTube (backed by Google Cloud) and Facebook (with its own infrastructure), have been unaffected. This shift could temporarily boost competitors, but it also strains their systems, risking secondary outages. Small businesses, particularly those without robust backup plans, stand to lose revenue from halted operations, with estimates suggesting millions in economic impact per hour of downtime.
