Frontier & Nokia Plan to Offer 10 Gigabit Internet Speeds in the US

Wish your internet connection was faster? This week Frontier Communications and Nokia announced a partnership to do just that. With this partnership, Frontier plans to offer 10-gigabit internet speeds over their fiber network.

“We are excited to be working with Nokia on solutions that bring multi-Gigabit services to the home and quickly scale to 10 Gigabits and beyond,” said Steve Gable, chief technology officer and executive vice president at Frontier Communications. “Nokia’s platform will enable us to effectively support xDSL, P2P fiber, GPON and 10Gbps PON requirements and gain the flexibility to seamlessly evolve into future PON technologies. Nokia’s solutions will enhance the customer experience by offering a Frontier fiber-powered internet that is as fast as it is reliable”.

With this system, Frontier will be able to offer 10 gigabits up and 10 gigabits down internet. Right now most internet service providers are still trying to roll out 1-gigabit internet options. Frontier is hoping their 10-gigabit offer will help them stand out.

This is also likely an effort to stand out now that 5G is starting its roll out. With 5G you will soon be able to get gigabit internet wirelessly. Frontier may see their 10-gigabit system as a way to stand out from a growing number of competitors.
