If you are a Frontier customer for your internet, you may have noticed some issues if you try to reach out for help. On the 14th of April, Frontier suffered a massive cyberattack that forced the company to shut down a large part of its internal network to prevent attackers from gaining access. This resulted in customers being unable to get help with some issues.

This all comes from a filing with the U.S. Securities Exchange Commission on Thursday spotted by Bleeping Computer. In that filing, Frontier said: “On April 14, 2024, Frontier Communications Parent, Inc. [..] detected that a third party had gained unauthorized access to portions of its information technology environment.” It went on to say. “Based on the Company’s investigation, it has determined that the third party was likely a cybercrime group, which gained access to, among other information, personally identifiable information.”

In a statement sent to Cord Cutters News Frontier said:

This week, Frontier Communications detected that a third party gained unauthorized access to our IT systems.  We believe the incident has been contained and importantly, our residential and business networks have not been affected by this issue.  We have launched an investigation into this incident, notified law enforcement and filed an 8-K disclosure with the SEC. Certain containment measures, including proactively shutting down our internal IT systems have affected our ability to communicate with customers. We have since restored those IT systems and are in the process of resuming normal business operations.

This attack comes just about a year after DISH suffered an attack that took its systems offline for most of a month. No word yet on when the system was expected to be fully back online.
