Frndly TV, the budget-friendly live TV streaming service known for its family-oriented programming, has made significant changes to its channel lineup, sparking buzz among its growing subscriber base. In a move that reflects its ongoing efforts to diversify content while maintaining affordability, Frndly TV has removed Recipe.TV from its roster and added The Grio, a network focused on African American culture and perspectives.

Recipe.TV, a channel dedicated to culinary inspiration and global cuisine, has been a staple for Frndly TV subscribers since its inclusion in the platform’s lineup. Featuring shows that explore recipes, cooking techniques, and food culture, Recipe.TV appealed to food enthusiasts seeking wholesome entertainment. However, Frndly TV confirmed that the channel was removed effective immediately, citing strategic decisions to refresh its content portfolio. “

In its place, Frndly TV has added The Grio, a network that delivers news, entertainment, and lifestyle programming centered on African American communities. The Grio, which launched as a digital platform in 2009 and expanded into a linear TV channel, features original series, cultural commentary, and thought-provoking documentaries. Popular programs include The Grio with Eboni K. Williams and The Grio News, which offer in-depth coverage of issues impacting Black Americans. The addition aligns with Frndly’s recent efforts to diversify its content, as seen with the inclusion of CLEO TV in March 2025, another channel celebrating multicultural perspectives.

The Grio is now available to all Frndly TV subscribers across its Basic, Classic, and Premium plans, starting at $6.99 per month. Viewers can access the channel live, utilize the 72-Hour Look Back feature, or record content with Frndly’s optional unlimited cloud DVR. The move has already generated positive reactions on social media, with subscribers praising the inclusion of The Grio for its fresh and relevant programming.

Frndly TV offers more than 50 channels, including Hallmark, A&E, Lifetime, and The Weather Channel, with a focus on family-friendly and lifestyle content. The recent acquisition by Roku for $185 million, announced on May 1, 2025, further signals Frndly’s growth trajectory and its strategic alignment with major players in the streaming industry.

While the removal of Recipe.TV may disappoint some food-loving subscribers, Frndly TV’s addition of The Grio reflects its adaptability and responsiveness to viewer demands. As the streaming landscape evolves, Frndly TV remains committed to delivering affordable, feel-good entertainment with a touch of cultural relevance. Subscribers can access The Grio immediately on platforms like Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, and more, ensuring seamless integration into their viewing experience.
