In a surprising shift within the streaming industry, Frndly TV has emerged as the second most popular live TV streaming service among cord cutters, according to a recent survey of over 1,400 cord-cutting households conducted in early 2025. The budget-friendly service, known for its affordable $7.99 base plan and family-focused channel lineup, captured 7.9% of the market, trailing only behind YouTube TV, which continues to dominate with a commanding 24.4% share. This rapid growth signals a growing demand for cost-effective alternatives as more Americans abandon traditional cable and satellite TV subscriptions.
The survey, conducted by Cord Cutters News, highlights the evolving preferences of cord cutters who are increasingly prioritizing affordability and tailored content over expansive, pricier packages. Frndly TV’s rise is particularly notable given its focus on family-friendly channels like Hallmark, UPtv, and INSP, which resonate with viewers seeking wholesome entertainment without the high costs associated with sports-heavy services. Priced significantly lower than competitors, Frndly TV has carved out a niche among cost-conscious consumers, challenging established players like Sling TV, Philo, and Hulu + Live TV.
YouTube TV remains the undisputed leader, boasting a robust channel lineup, unlimited DVR, and premium features like NFL Sunday Ticket integration. However, its 24.4% market share, while impressive, underscores that a significant portion of cord cutters—41.6% according to the survey—opt for no live TV streaming service at all, favoring on-demand platforms like Netflix or free over-the-air broadcasts. Meanwhile, Frndly TV’s growth reflects a countertrend, with budget services gaining traction as cord cutters seek value-driven options amid rising streaming costs.
Sling TV, with 7.3%, secured third place, appealing to viewers with its customizable Orange and Blue packages starting at $46. Philo followed closely at 6.1%, offering a $28 entertainment-focused package. DIRECTV and Hulu + Live TV tied at 5.5%, with the former attracting sports fans through regional networks and the latter bundled with Disney+ and ESPN+. Fubo, with a sports-centric focus, lagged at 2.6%.

Frndly TV’s ascent suggests a potential reshaping of the streaming landscape, where affordability could challenge the dominance of premium services. As cord-cutting continues to grow, with an estimated 80.7 million U.S. households projected to ditch cable by 2026, Frndly TV’s momentum positions it as a key player to watch.
