Free Streaming Service LocalBTV Is For Sale After Running Out of Money

LocalBTV, a live TV streaming service that offers local channels for free, has been offline for almost three weeks and has run out of money, Cord Cutters News has learned.

Its parent company, Didja Inc., is looking for new investors or a buyer to take over the company, according to a person familiar with the business. Didja has largely been silent about the matter.

The outage has taken the service offline on both its website and mobile apps. The LocalBTV app has also been removed from the Roku store, leaving viewers unable to watch their local programming through the service. This came after the service temporarily went down in October and broke the optional DVR for many.

The question now is who will be interested in buying the free service. There is an add-on option for a DVR to help raise funds. Several possible buyers or investors have looked at the company, but it is struggling to close any deals, the person said.

According to LinkedIn, the employees of Didja Inc., the parent company of LocalBTV, are still listed as working there, although those social media accounts for both LocalBTV and its parent company may not have been updated in many months.

The future of LocalBTV is unknown right now and all the people behind the service can do is wait and see if a new investor or buyer shows up.
