While HBO Max had exclusive streaming rights to new Fox releases in 2021, that won’t be the case next year. Disney+ recently announced that Free Guy will be joining its library in February 2022, the same time it arrives on HBO Max.
This is part of a new deal we reported on last month in making it so Disney+ and Hulu will get access to new releases by 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Films sooner. Ahead of Free Guy, other titles to be shared among the streaming services include Ron’s Gone Wrong, and West Side Story.
According to Variety, “Under the tweaked pact, HBO/HBO Max will share co-exclusive rights with Disney Plus and Hulu to a selection of titles from 20th Century Studios and Searchlight Pictures. HBO/HBO Max will retain pay-one TV window exclusivity on approximately half the slate through 2022.”
Free Guy will be available to stream on Disney+ starting February 23rd, 2022.
