FOX will be responsible for developing the platform for the sports streaming joint venture between it, Walt Disney’s ESPN, and Warner Bros. Discovery, according to a tweet from Wall Street Journal media reporter Joe Flint.

Flint noted that the platform will be based on News Corp.’s Kayo Sports platform, which is a live sports subscription streaming service that is jointly owned by News Corp. and Australian telecom company Telstra.

Flint’s tweet offers a brief glimpse into what the sports JV experience will look like, and follows FOX CEO Lachlan Murdoch’s comments from the company’s fiscal second-quarter earnings call about his own positive response to seeing the early versions of the platform.

A spokesman for FOX wasn’t immediately available to comment.

FOX developing the platform could mean that it may not get tightly integrated into the Hulu platform, although it’s still unclear what the capabilities are at this point. Disney has been working to move some of Hulu’s content onto Disney+’s service.

The three companies have shook up the streaming and pay-TV industry with their announcement, which is already causing waves. Competitors like Fubo have expressed their concerns, and cable companies and sports leagues are examining their own contracts to see the venture raises any conflicts. The Justice Department will also review the service once it’s more formalized for anti-trust concerns.

For now, there remains lots of questions, including the price and name of the service. It’s expected to launch in the fall.
