Official Celebrity Boxing and FITE have announced that the promotion’s next five PPV events will be hosted on the global streaming platform. The promotion is one of the most-known celebrity boxing promotions in the world as it was at the forefront of the celebrity fight craze over two decades ago.
Under the new agreement, the first event will be called Clash in the Metaverse on Friday, June 30. The PPV will be highlighted by 9-time world champion Roy Jones Jr. vs. internet bodybuilding superstar NDO champ. The show’s title is derived from the fact that there will be live physical boxing in the metaverse, which is a technological first.
Dates for future events haven’t been announced yet, but Damon Feldman, the founder of Offical Celebrity Boxing, has stated that Mark Coleman will step inside the ring at the second event.
“There’s no question Damon Feldman had a huge influence on sports when he created Official Celebrity Boxing,” said FITE Co-Founder and COO Michael Weber. “And it’s not just that he’s kept going – he’s kept switching stances so no competitor can beat him. With Clash in the Metaverse we’ll see traditional boxing viewers, newcomers inspired by social media, and other crossover fans of all kinds interested in the tech. No matter what–it’s going to be a hell of a fight.”
As part of the new deal, Feldman will host the Official Celebrity Boxing podcast, which will feature special guests weekly and will be available to stream on FITE’s SVOD platform FITE+.
