Thanks to some amazing work by AFTVnews.com breaking down the code in the new developer preview of Fire OS 5, a lot of new details about the new Fire TV that is expected out any day now have been confirmed.

Go over the AFTVnews.com site and read their post for full details on the next-generation Fire TV and the addition of Alexa.

What we know:

  • Code-named Sloane
  • Expect a new remote and game controller
  • Will run at 27.5 frames per second much higher than the current 13.9 frame per second
  • 4k
  • Built-in Alexa

How does it stack up to the new Apple TV?

The new Fire TV will have 4K something the new Apple TV will not support: 4K. As 4K continues to grow and with Netflix and Amazon Instant both releasing 4K content this is a clear win for the Fire TV.

The only real advantage the new Apple TV had over the old Fire TV was better voice search. Now with Alexa coming to the Fire TV with the ability to ask questions about shows and movies along with the ability to integrate with weather, traffic, sports, shopping, music, facts, calendar, and so much more the one standout feature on the new Apple TV may be at least equaled by the new Fire TV if not beat.

So from everything we know the new Fire TV is equal to or better than the new Apple TV.

There are also a lot of rumors that are not confirmed at this time about the new Fire TV—from remotes that run on Wi-Fi to a release date that may be before the Apple TV—as soon as we learn more we will post updates if and when we can confirm anything.
