Fire TV Brings Back Dedicated Music Section

Fire TV is first and foremost a tool to get access to streaming shows and movies. But less known is its ability to serve as a music player too.

As AFTVnews’ Elias Saba points out, Amazon’s streaming device now includes a “Music & More” section as a standalone app that brings up songs, radio stations, and podcasts. You can find the section in the Fire TV’s “Find” tab or just say “Open music and more” to the Fire TV’s microphone.

There’s been more interest in the music streaming area in recent months. In November, Spotify redesigned its smart TV app to make it easier to view and control your music. Last week, a new music-streaming service focused on the smart TV called ROXi was unveiled at CES and plans to launch later this year with games and karaoke features.

Like other media interfaces, the Fire TV one includes a “Recently Played” row along with music and stations recommended from Amazon Music. As Saba noted, Fire TVs are able to continue playing music even if you shut off the app.

It’s another option if you’re in the mood to play music on the big screen in your living room.
