FCC Adds Hundreds More Companies to its ‘Keep Americans Connected’ Pledge

Federal Trade Commission LogoThe Federal Communications Commission has announced hundreds of additional broadband providers and telcos have signed on to the its Keep Americans Connected Pledge, aimed at ensuring internet access to residents and small business during the COVID-19 outbreak. The pledge was first announced last week, with dozens of companies and trade associations signing on initially.

This latest update adds 205 more providers to the list, bringing the total to 390. The update also includes industry groups like the Satellite Industry Association and the WTA — Advocates for Rural Broadband. By signing on, each company agrees to adhere to the pledge’s goals of:

Each of the measures is meant to last at least 60 days, and several companies, including Comcast and T-Mobile, have announced further measures beyond what’s described in the pledge.

“It is important during this crisis that Americans can keep in touch with family and friends while practicing social distancing, telework, and take part in remote learning and telehealth. I thank all those who are working to Keep Americans Connected and continue to find ways to help consumers meet their needs in light of the pandemic,” FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said in a press release.
