Diamond Sports Group, the largest owner of regional sports networks in the United States, announced today that it will offer single-game pricing for NBA and NHL games starting December 5th. This new option will be available on its direct-to-consumer streaming package, FanDuel Sports Network, formerly known as Bally Sports.
Fans will be able to purchase individual games for $6.99, giving them greater flexibility to watch their favorite teams without committing to a monthly or season-long subscription. This move comes as Diamond Sports Group navigates Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings and faces objections to its reorganization plan from Major League Baseball and the Atlanta Braves.
“Adding single-game pricing allows fans to catch their local NBA and NHL teams on a game-by-game basis, enhancing the flexibility of our offering,” said Michael Schneider, FanDuel Sports Network COO, direct-to-consumer. “This demonstrates our commitment to providing a variety of viewing options and features that make it easier for our viewers to watch their favorite teams.”
Diamond Sports Group holds the rights to 13 NBA and eight NHL teams. The company filed for bankruptcy in March 2023 with a reported debt of $8.67 billion. A final hearing on its reorganization plan is scheduled for Thursday.
This new pricing strategy could potentially attract more viewers and generate additional revenue for the struggling company. However, the long-term impact on Diamond Sports Group’s financial stability and its relationships with major sports leagues remains to be seen.
