We are now less than two weeks from the new Apple TV 5th generation announcement. On September 12, 2017, Apple has announced an event that according to all reports will be to announce a new iPhone and Apple TV.
Now the question is not if but what will be in the new 5th gen Apple TV. So let’s take a moment and look at what will be new with the 5th gen Apple TV.
We can confirm that the new Apple TV will have 4K HDR as part of its lineup. From multiple leaks and the newly added 4K HDR tags in iTunes we can confirm 4K HDR will be part of the new Apple TV.
Maybe a Smart TV?
We recently learned that Apple was once again looking at making a smart TV after it dropped its smart TV plans a few years ago. Photos leaked from a factory in China showed what looks to be an Apple TV in testing. If these photos are real (a 50/50 possibility right now) it is possible that the new Apple TV could be a real smart TV and not a player. Or it could mean Apple will release both a smart TV and an Apple TV box.
What other details do we know?
Sadly, we don’t have any other confirmed details beyond the 4K HDR. Will there be a new non-touchpad remote? New specs? Game controller? These are all questions for which we will need to wait for answers.
This time at least Apple has done a good job of keeping the new Apple TV details under wraps.
