Since 2002, Around the Horn has been a staple of ESPN and sports-debate television. In 23 seasons, the sports talk panel show has aired over 4,800 episodes in its daily 5:30 PM ET time slot, but today, the mute button will be pressed for the final time.
The long-running show will conclude with its 4,953rd episode from ESPN’s Seaport Studios in New York City, with host Tony Reali and its panelists debating the hot sports topics of the day. Reali, who took over as host from Max Kellerman in 2004, called the series’ longevity “a success story no matter how it ends,” saying he considers the ending a “sunset” rather than a cancellation in an interview with People.
For many sports fans, the ESPN “Happy Hour” of Around the Horn and Pardon the Interruption back-to-back is a certain nostalgia that will be missed. Over the show’s run, many debate shows have come and gone and along with PTI, it inspired present-day shows such as Get Up and First Take.
ATH’s influence is felt throughout sports media as it was a launchpad for some of the biggest names in the industry, similar to how Saturday Night Live is to actors. With a mix of veteran sportswriters and up-and-coming personalities, notable names to appear during the show’s run include Woody Paige, Mina Kimes, Pablo Torre, Bomani Jones, Adam Schefter, Elle Duncan, Jemele Hill, Bob Ryan, Jackie MacMullen, J.A. Adande, and Bill Plaschke.
Here’s how to watch today’s final episode of ATH.
