Skydance Sports has teamed with ESPN+ and Disney+ to give fans an inside look at one of the most successful NFL franchises in recent years, the Kansas City Chiefs. Produced by Words + Pictures, the ESPN Originals six-part docuseries is set to premiere later this year, and it aims to capture the intensity and emotion of the 2024 season while exploring the franchise’s history and how it became the dynasty we know today.
Under the leadership of head coach Andy Reid and star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs have secured multiple Super Bowl victories and become the powerhouse of the NFL over the last five seasons. ESPN+ and Disney+ are set to stream the docuseries when it premieres.

Produced in association with NFL Films, the series will blend present-day footage from the 2024 season with archival content and personal interviews. Viewers will be provided with a rare behind-the-scenes look at the challenges and triumphs that define life in the NFL, particularly for a team with championship aspirations. Fans can expect in-depth interviews with key figures within the organization, including Mahomes, Reid, and other core members of the Chiefs’ roster.
The project brings together some of the most respected names in sports storytelling. Kristen Lappas, an Emmy-winning director known for her work on acclaimed sports documentaries, will direct the series. NFL Films, renowned for its groundbreaking sports coverage, will contribute its signature cinematic style, while Words + Pictures, which has produced several award-winning sports films, will help craft the narrative.

The docuseries will go beyond focusing on wins and losses by exploring the day-to-day grind of an NFL season, the strategic decisions that shape games, and the emotional highs and lows that come with chasing a championship. It gives fans a deep look into their dominance over the past several seasons, which has cemented the Chiefs’ place in NFL history while becoming a target for every team in the league, adding pressure and stakes to every game.
The series will also touch on the team’s history dating back to their founding as the Dallas Texans by owner and innovator Lamar Hunt and their broader cultural impact, particularly their role in Kansas City. Known for Chiefs Kingdom, the passionate fanbase that packs Arrowhead Stadium and supports the team through thick and thin, this docuseries will give viewers insights into one of the most vocal and loyal fan communities in sports.
A release date has yet to be announced, but viewers will get a closer look at how that connection between the Chiefs and the city that fuels the players’ drive to win later this year on ESPN+ and Disney+
