EPIX Review 2022

What is EPIX?

EPIX is a premium pay television network from Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer that gives you access to the latest releases along with classic films and original programming. Its original content lineup consists of acclaimed series, comedy specials, and compelling documentaries to educate and entertain viewers.

EPIX makes thousands of titles available on-demand, online, and on TV. You can get it through your TV provider or directly through EPIX. As such, the cost may also vary depending on where you make your purchase. It generally runs around $5.99/mo., whether you subscribe directly through the service or via a third-party provider.

Some providers bundle the channel with other premium networks like CBS All Access and HBO, and that’s when you’ll see a difference in pricing. There’s also a seven-day EPIX free trial, which gives you plenty of time to check out its content lineup and user interface before you decide to pay for the service.

The EPIX Vault consists of both underrated and well-loved classics such as Aces & Eights, Baba Yaga, Battle of the Yukon, My Dear Secretary, Night of the Living Dead, and The Stranger to name just a few. You can also find several popular and contemporary releases in other genres, such as Conan the Barbarian, The Avengers, and Transformers: Dark of the Moon in action and adventure.

Featured comedy titles include Cheech & Chong: Still Smokin’, The Bell Boy, The Hustle, The Spy Next Door, Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family, and What Men Want. For those who enjoy underrated indie films, the service also offers a decent selection of titles such as Boy, Foxfire, The Little Shop of Horrors, Precious, and The Yellow Handkerchief.

If you have kids in the house, EPIX also provides you with family-friendly titles like Charlotte’s Web, The Last Airbender, Rango, and Wonder Park. And for those who love educational content, it has a robust library of documentaries such as Alive, Breaking the Maya Code, Muhammed Ali: A Life, The James Dean Story, and This is Home: A Refugee Story.

Aside from this extensive collection of popular titles and contemporary releases, the most exciting part is the original programming collection. The service provides you with intriguing original shows such as Deep State, Godfather of Harlem, Pennyworth, and War of the Worlds. It also has a few original documentaries, including Alive, America Divided, Back Issues: The Hustler Magazine Story, The Panama Papers, and Under the Gun.

Besides the usual categories, EPIX sorts its content into collections such as creature features, essential EPIX, ladies behind the lens, out of this world, and throwbacks. So you should check those out too if you want to explore beyond the standard genres that you normally see.

EPIX features

DVR

Although EPIX doesn’t specify whether it has cloud DVR controls, it lets you download some of its content for offline viewing. The service permits you to keep up to 25 downloaded titles at a time and saves them for 30 days. If you start watching a downloaded movie, you have seven days to finish before the EPIX app removes it from your Downloads.

Downloads

In addition, you can download titles for offline viewing on up to six devices — an excellent feature for families. The service comes with multi-device streaming, although it doesn’t specify exactly how many simultaneous streams it allows. There’s also no information about how many user profiles are permitted per account.

The simultaneous streaming limit may also vary depending on how you access EPIX. For example, if you watch EPIX through YouTube TV, you can stream from up to three devices, but that may differ if you sign up through another streaming service.

Parental Controls

EPIX also comes with parental controls, though customization is limited. Log on to your account through the EPIX website to select the rating limitation you wish to set. Note that these settings will only manage viewing on EPIX apps and the service’s website. It can take up to 24 hours to update the settings.

The final cut

For those who love premium channels and original programming, EPIX makes for an excellent addition to your streaming plan or cable subscription. And for just $5.99/mo., the 1000+ titles in its library are a pretty good deal. Since you get a seven-day free trial of service, you should definitely test it to see if it appeals to you and how it compares to other premium channels like CBS All Access and HBO.

To get a good feel for the streaming quality, make sure you test EPIX on all your devices, including any smartphones, tablets or streaming devices you regularly use to view content.
