Elon Musk Reportedly Wants to Make X Into the New YouTube With a Major Announcement Next Week

For years, even before Elon Musk bought Twitter, now called X, has worked to take on YouTube. Now, according to a report from the NY Post, as soon as next week, X will launch an app on streaming players and smart TVs to stream video from X to your TV.

This is not a new idea. About 5 years ago, Twitter had apps on streaming players like Roku that would let you watch live and on-demand videos from Twitter. That was later shutdown on most streaming players after it failed to gain traction even though it had content from major partners like the PGA.

Now, it is being reported that X will try again and, this time, focus on attracting content partners like MrBeast to its platform. This all comes as MrBeats tested out posting his videos on X back in January.

“My first X video made over $250,000!” Donaldson wrote in an X post on back in Janurary. The content creator acknowledged that the buzz around the original post likely gave the video’s overall numbers a boost.

“[It’s] a bit of a facade,” Donaldson went on to say in the post. “Advertisers saw the attention it was getting and bought ads on my video (I think) and thus my revenue per view is prob higher than what you’d experience.”

According to a screenshot, MrBeast’s video on X totaled more than 156 million impressions and more than five million engagements. As of Tuesday, the X video had over 161 million views.

“I’m curious how much ad revenue a video on X would make so I’m reuploading this to test it,” Donaldson said in the post, adding that he’d share the figures the following week.

Donaldson had already uploaded the video on YouTube a few months back and to date it has more than 216 million views.

This comes after Musk has been taking on YouTube and Twitch for months, but now industry sources have told Cord Cutters News that the tech mogul has approached some popular YouTubers, like MrBeast, to post their videos on X. The Tesla owner has talked about creating more financial incentives to make it worth it for creators to post on his platform.

If more creators take part in these tests and begin cross-posting — maybe even migrating exclusively — to X, a serious shakeup could be coming for video-sharing and live streaming apps.
