Worried woman reading paper

Earlier this week a story was posted online saying the main cord cutting streaming services will now cost more than $120.

According the Daily Mail report Netflix, Prime Video, Max, Peacock, Paramount+, Apple TV+, Disney+, Hulu, and Britbox would add up $121.41. This raised a question from many about how much the true cost of cord cutting is.

There are a few obvious issues with this report. First, they used the more expensive ad-free option for all these services. There are less expensive ways to get all these services if you are willing to get ads with some or all of these services.

The other big issue is the fact that most cord cutters don’t pay for nine services every month like the Daily Mail suggests. The Parks Associates study used a 2022 survey that shows about 50% of Americans pay for at least four streaming services.

This year, as part of our annual Fall cord cutting survey, we surveyed more than 2,000 Cord Cutters News readers and most cord cutters pay for four or fewer streaming services.

According to our readers, 66.2% pay for four or fewer streaming services, 49% pay for three or fewer streaming services, and 29.5% pay for two or fewer streaming services.

So, what would four streaming services cost monthly if you went with ads? (Why with ads? Because cable TV also has ads.)

  • Disney+ $7.99 with ads
  • Paramount+ $5.99 with ads
  • Discovery+ $4.99 with ads
  • Netflix $6.99 with ads

Total Cost: $25.96 a month

The great thing about cord cutting is the ability to subscribe to what you want when you want. With no contracts, you can easily swap between videos services. This means you can save money by rotating services. For example, you can subscribe to Paramount+ for a month and watch everything you want to before switching to a different streaming service. This will help you save money.

In the end, with cord cutting you pay for what you want without being forced to pay for something you do not want.
