Plenty of apps allow users to watch movies through websites and apps. Movies Anywhere makes it easier to watch movies that you’ve purchased from anywhere. Find out more about how this service can help you create your movie library, below.
What it Is
Movies Anywhere began as Disney Movies Anywhere in 2014. At that time, users could buy Disney movies from the iTunes store and use the app to create a library of purchased movies and bonus content. The service soon expanded to include Google Play, Vudu, Amazon Video, and Fios on Demand content.
In 2017, the platform expanded to include more than just Disney content. The company partnered with 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures, and Warner Brothers. The result was a huge number of movies that could be downloaded from multiple sources and collected in one location, the Movies Anywhere platform, to stream on most devices.
How it Works
Start by creating an account with Movies Anywhere. You won’t need to pay for the service or sign up for a monthly subscription.
When your account is set up, connect it to your accounts with supported retailers. You can connect accounts from the following retailers:
That means that you can buy movies from whichever retailer you prefer, and can shop around for the lowest price before purchasing. When your accounts are connected, your library will sync, and you’ll have access to all of the movies you’ve purchased from each retailer in your Movies Now library.
You’ll have access to your full movie library on any device with Movies Now installed. Your content will also be available across all platforms. If you bought a movie from Vudu, but want to watch on Amazon, you can.
Plans and Pricing
The Movies Anywhere app is free to download and use. The only thing you’ll need to pay for is each individual movie from any of the supported retailers.
Use the Movies Anywhere app with the following devices:
Features and Content
The content available on Movies Anywhere will be made up of movies you purchase from the supported retailers and upload to your movie library. Your library will only include movies that have been purchased, not rented. You also won’t be able to add TV shows. This service is for movies only.
While many of the major movie companies are on board with Movies Anywhere, Paramount and Lions Gate are not part of the partnership, so movies from those companies won’t be able to be added to your library to be available across all platforms. Those who were already using Disney Movies Anywhere before the service switched to Movies Anywhere can transfer their movie collection to the new service.
You can stream movies from your library on up to four devices simultaneously. However, you can only watch the same movie on two devices simultaneously.
For now, Movies Anywhere is offering a deal for new accounts. Sign up, connect your accounts, and get five free movies chosen by Movies Anywhere. Currently, those movies are Ice Age, Ghostbusters, Jason Bourne, The Lego Movie, and Big Hero 6.
