Disney+ subscribers in Europe may notice a number of titles missing from the streamer’s catalog.
Movies like The Sandlot, The Shaggy Dog, Brink, Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century, Hello Dolly, and more have suddenly disappeared. While subscribers will likely be able to find certain titles, like The Sandlot, on other services, Disney Channel Original movies like Brink and Zenon may be harder to find legally.
A number of ESPN 30 For 30 documentaries were also removed from Disney+ in European countries including In Search of Derrick Thomas, Run Ricky Run, Big Shot, and more.
The list of movies, reported earlier by What’s On Disney Plus, appear to still be available on Disney+ in the U.S. for now.
It’s not uncommon for content to rotate out on streaming services due to contracts, holidays, or changes in popularity, but Disney is also trying to pare down its costs. Last summer, Disney removed $1.5 billion in content from its streaming services.
The last few years have shaken the entertainment industry. The media giant has taken aggressive action to right its financial ship including price hikes, budget cuts, layoffs, selling its India assets, password crackdowns, and merging Disney+ with Hulu. Pulling titles from its service is likely part of its cost-saving measures.
If analyst predictions prove correct, Disney is on track to reach profitability in the first quarter of 2024. Last year, Disney CEO Bob Iger said investors should see a return by September 2024.
