Disney+ Reaches 116 Million Subscribers

Disney reported its Q3 financial results Thursday, announcing that Disney+ has reached 116 million paid subscribers as of the end of the quarter, nearly a 100% increase year over year.

The average monthly revenue per paid subscriber for Disney+ decreased from $4.62 to $4.16 for the quarter

“We ended the third quarter in a strong position, and are pleased with the Company’s trajectory as we grow our businesses amidst the ongoing challenges of the pandemic,” said Bob Chapek, Chief Executive Officer, The Walt Disney Company. “We continue to introduce exciting new experiences at our parks and resorts worldwide, along with new guest-centric services, and our direct-to-consumer business is performing very well, with a total of nearly 174 million subscriptions across Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu at the end of the quarter, and a host of new content coming to the platforms.”

Marvel shows and movies once again helped Disney to draw in more subscribers for this quarter. Loki earning higher first day viewership than any other Marvel title with 890,000 households watching on day one, according to data from Samba. The streaming service also brought in $60 million in sales from Black Widow during its opening weekend.
