Disney’s free ad-supported content may be coming to LG channels.

National Geographic’s Sharkfest and Wicked Tuna have launched on LG Channels, according to The Fastmaster‘s Gavin Bridge, marking the first time non-news Disney content has been available on platform other than the ABC app.

The two National Geographic channels are not exclusive to LG, Cord Cutters News independently confirmed.

This comes after Disney has been working on converting the ABC app into a free streaming service for almost a year. The media giant intends for its service to take on existing free ad-supported channels like Tubi and Pluto TV.

In December, Disney announced its free feed of ESPN and ESPN8. The app houses a growing number of channels like National Geographic along with ABC News Live, 20/20, General Hospital Spotlight, Press Your Luck, and more.

Free ad-supported channels have blossomed in popularity over the last year as viewers looked for ways to save money amid uncertain economic conditions.

Time spent watching ad-supported video on demand and free ad-supported services increased 6% from 2022 to 2023 according to TiVo’s Video Trends report last year.

On demand streamers raising their prices also contributed to the shift, and ad-supported tiers of subscription video on demand services increased. Peacock, Hulu, Paramount+ and Max all reported more subscribers to their ad-supported tiers, according to TiVo.
