Disney+ Europe Will Make Subscribers Wait for Weekly Mandalorian Episodes

With Disney+ set to launch in Europe on March 24th, future subscribers in the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, and Switzerland are anxiously awaiting their opportunity to watch the Disney+ original The Mandalorian. Unfortunately, they’ll need to wait even longer.

While Disney+ will be launching much of their content in Europe at the same time it launches in the US, What’s On Disney Plus reports that not all series schedules will be synced. The Mandalorian will start airing on March 24th, but viewers won’t get access to all of the episodes. It looks like Disney+ will be rolling them out weekly.

This is the tweet sent out by Disney+ UK to fill new subscribers in. The tweet was also posted on the Spanish and Italian accounts.

In the Twitter thread, Disney+ UK says “We plan to premiere lots of content at the same time as our friends in the US. However there will be some variation in content between countries.”

It’s likely that Disney is using this strategy to keep subscribers paying for months of the subscription, rather than binge watching the series during a free trial and cancelling immediately after.

What Disney did not elaborate on is whether more original series, like High School Musical: The Musical: The Series or The Imagineering Story, will also have the weekly schedule.

With Disney+ amassing a huge number of subscribers in just the few months the service has been available in the US, the company is banking on international subscribers continuing to add to its growth. The question is whether this strategy for The Mandalorian and potentially other original series will be enough.
