Disney+ continued its global expansion in the second quarter of 2024, adding 200,000 subscribers to reach a total of 153.8 million worldwide. The streaming giant saw particularly strong growth in the United States and Canada, where its subscriber base increased by 800,000 to over 54.8 million.

This growth comes as Disney+ prepares to implement a price increase for both its basic and premium tiers. Starting in mid-October, the basic plan will cost $9.99 per month, up from $8.99, while the premium plan, which offers ad-free viewing and 4K streaming, will rise to $15.99 per month from $13.99.

Despite the upcoming price increase, Disney+ remains a major player in the competitive streaming landscape, offering a vast library of content including Disney classics, Marvel superhero movies, Star Wars sagas, and National Geographic documentaries.

“Our performance in Q3 demonstrates the progress we’ve made against our four strategic priorities across our creative studios, streaming, sports, and Experiences businesses.  This was a strong quarter for Disney, driven by excellent results in our Entertainment segment both at the box office and in DTC, as we achieved profitability across our combined streaming businesses(1) for the first time and a quarter ahead of our previous guidance. Despite softer third quarter performance in our Experiences segment, adjusted EPS(1) for the company was up 35%, and with our complementary and balanced portfolio of businesses, we are confident in our ability to continue driving earnings growth through our collection of unique and powerful assets.” Disney CEO Bob Iger said in the press release.
