Dish Network says it will close on its purchase of Boost by T-Mobile on July 1.

Dish has been sharing plans for offering a “disruptive” wireless option since 2019 when we reported that both Dish and Amazon were both bidding on Boost Mobile. In July 2019, it was reported that Dish and T-Mobile had made a deal that would make Dish the 4th major wireless carrier in the US. That deal came as the Department of Justice approved the T-Mobile and Sprint merger only after T-Mobile sold assets to Dish. At that time, Bloomberg noted that the company would be paying $1.5 billion for Boost Mobile.

Light Reading reported that Dish has now made an SEC filing to enter the wireless industry with the potential to become a nationwide 5G operator.

The DOJ stepped in once again, as stated in the SEC filing which said: “On June 17, 2020, the Department of Justice (the ‘DOJ’) determined that T-Mobile has complied with the requirement in the final judgment entered by a federal district court in Washington, D.C. on April 1, 2020 (the ‘Final Judgment’) to provide Dish the ability to cross-provision any new or existing customer of the prepaid business with a compatible handset onto the T-Mobile network.”

The filing then offers the date for the closing of the sale. “As a result, we believe all conditions to closing under the Asset Purchase Agreement (other than those conditions that can only be satisfied at closing) have been satisfied and, subject to the satisfaction of the conditions that must be satisfied at closing, the closing of the Prepaid Business Sale will occur on July 1, 2020.”

Dish has been preparing for its new wireless service since early this year, with plans to make the service a main focus going forward.
