Today DISH announced their 1st quarter earnings for 2023. In that report, we learned that DISH and Sling TV lost a combined 552,000. This is up from the 268,000 subscribers DISH had in the 4th quarter of 2022.

This works out to DISH losing over 6,000 TV customers every day.

Sling TV ended the 1st quarter of 2023 with 2.10 million subscribers, down from 2.334 million subscribers at the end of 2022.

DISH TV ended the year with 7.10 million subscribers, down from the 7.416 million subscribers at the end of the 4th quarter of 2022.

DISH wireless subscribers decreased by approximately 81,000 subscribers, but that is an improvement from the 343,000 subscribers they lost during the same time in 2022.

In total, DISH has about 9.20 pay-TV subscribers. This comes as cord cutting is speeding up and DISH suffered a security breach that took down their ability to add customers for an extended period of time during the 1st quarter of 2023.

Net income attributable to DISH Network totaled $223 million, down from $433 million in the 1st quarter of 2022.

DISH is not alone in losing TV subscribers every major TV network reported losses in 2023 so far.

Here is how DISH described the 1st quarter:

Pay-TV
Net pay-TV subscribers decreased approximately 552,000 in the first quarter, compared to a decrease of approximately 462,000 in the year-ago quarter.

The company closed the quarter with 9.20 million pay-TV subscribers, including 7.10 million DISH TV subscribers and 2.10 million SLING TV subscribers.

Wireless
Retail wireless net subscribers decreased by approximately 81,000 in the first quarter, compared to a net decrease of 343,000 in the year-ago quarter.
