Today DIRECTV is launching a new campaign to promote its recently launched Sports Central, a single spot in its user interface that shows all the best games, stats, and scores. As sports become one of the few reasons people pay for a live TV service, DIRECTV is hoping by making sports more front and center, it can keep more subscribers and maybe even add new ones.
DIRECTV says this new Sports Central area will make finding all the best sports easier. This new area is available for customers on its DIRECTV and DIRECTV via Internet services. Sadly this addition is not available to DIRECTV STREAM customers according to DIRECTV.
To promote this new Sports Central feature, DIRECTV is launching a new campaign with football great Travis Kelce as the “Overly Direct Sportsperson.” With these new ads, DIRECTV hopes to promote how their new user experience is the best way to find sports.
“I’ve loved seeing the DIRECTV commercials over the years and I’m honored to follow in the footsteps of several football legends that I also call friends,” said Kelce. “This is a fun campaign and showcases DIRECTV as the ideal solution for football fans looking for a great viewing experience.”
“The new Overly Direct Sportsperson spots and digital activations are a light-hearted way to demonstrate DIRECTV’s leadership in bringing sports, including football, to viewers, whether through live TV or various streaming apps,” said Vince Torres, chief marketing officer, DIRECTV. “The campaign is intended to be fun, with a focus on the differentiation of the DIRECTV customer experience, including sports access, aggregation, and personalization.”
DIRECTV has also recently announced deals to bring the NFL Network to DIRECTV STREAM and add NFL Redzone to DIRECTV, U-verse, and DIRECTV STREAM. This comes as TV services increasingly look at sports as a way to help hold off cord cutting.
