In an exciting news for streaming customers, DIRECTV has started to rollout of a new Multiview feature for its streaming packages, allowing subscribers to watch multiple channels simultaneously on a single screen. The feature, which promises to enhance the viewing experience for sports fans, news junkies, and entertainment lovers, was launched as a test this week, exclusively on DIRECTV’s Gemini and Gemini Air streaming devices. However, just hours after going live, reports surfaced that the Multiview feature was removed from the apps.

The Multiview feature, inspired by similar offerings from competitors like YouTube TV and Fubo, allows users to view up to four channels at once in a customizable quad-box format. DIRECTV’s implementation aims to cater to its diverse subscriber base, offering curated “Mix” channels for sports, news, and entertainment. For instance, sports fans can watch multiple games simultaneously, while news viewers can monitor coverage from networks like CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, and Newsmax on a single screen. The feature was first teased in a beta test for election coverage in November 2024, where Gemini device users accessed live feeds from multiple news sources alongside real-time election statistics. The positive reception during that trial prompted DIRECTV to expand Multiview to its broader streaming platform.

Currently, the Multiview feature is only available on DIRECTV’s proprietary Gemini and Gemini Air devices, which are designed to deliver a seamless streaming experience via internet connections. These devices, offer 4K HDR capabilities and integration with popular apps like Netflix and Prime Video, boot directly into DIRECTV’s launcher, offering a unified interface for live TV and on-demand content. However, subscribers using other streaming devices, such as Apple TV, Roku, or Amazon Firestick, have reported that Multiview is not yet supported, limiting its accessibility in this initial phase.

The introduction of Multiview underscores DIRECTV’s efforts to remain competitive in the crowded streaming market. With rivals like YouTube TV and Hulu + Live TV offering similar split-screen capabilities, DIRECTV aims to attract and retain subscribers by enhancing its streaming packages.
