DIRECTV STREAM Starts to Rebrand as DIRECTV on Osprey Streaming Players

Last week we learned that DIRECTV STREAM would once again be changing its name, this time to DIRECTV if you use one of its Osprey streaming players. Now with an update to the Osprey Box, that name change has started to happen.

DIRECTV STREAM has a history of name changes, including DIRECTV NOW, AT&T TV, AT&T TV NOW, and more. Now the DIRECTV STREAM with Device option will come under the DIRECTV name umbrella.

With the update to 30.5.10.42 on DIRECTV STREAM’s Osprey Box, customers have noticed the word stream is gone, and the service is now called DIRECTV. As users explored the updated device in several spots across the user interface now, customers noticed DIRECTV STREAM is now called just DIRECTV.

Reportedly DIRECTV STREAM is not entirely going away now though if you use DIRECTV’s own streaming player, the service will be called DIRECTV via the Internet. If you use your own device and stream on a Roku, Fire TV, or Apple TV, for example, the service will still be called DIRECTV STREAM.

For now, DIRECTV has not announced any name change, but it is reported that once the name change happens, DIRECTV via Internet customers, will get a two-year price lock, just like DIRECTV satellite customers.
