DIRECTV Stream Finally Rolls Out Unlimited DVR to Legacy Subscribers

tv and remote

Some legacy DIRECTV Stream subscribers got a welcome surprise today with the addition of unlimited DVR. It’s part of a broader rollout to more customers over the next few days.

While some customers confirmed getting the feature, it appears they were just the few lucky ones who got it early. DIRECTV plans to announce the DVR capability to a significant group of its legacy live TV streaming subscribers on Wednesday and in subsequent days. There won’t be a large announcement, with the company likely notifying customers directly.

The move is essentially a make-good after DIRECTV dropped the $10-a-month charge for new STREAM customers who signed up for a new plan back in 2022. Customers who were on an older streaming plan were either stuck with the $10 fee or didn’t get the same perk as newer customers.

Nowadays, unlimited DVR — the ability to record and play programs just like a standard cable TV service — is a standard feature found on many live TV streaming services, from YouTube TV to Philo.

The feature is also coming just a few weeks ahead of a price hike that DIRECTV is applying to all of its services, including Stream.
