Both DIRECTV NOW and PlayStation Vue have been aggressive in trying to make their services stand out from a crowded market. DIRECTV has offered free devices and even is offering DIRECTV NOW for just $10 if you have AT&T Wireless Unlimited. PlayStation Vue also has been very aggressive about adding local stations to help them stand out.
Now it seems that almost 200 ABC stations are about to come to DIRECTV NOW and PlayStation Vue. The best part is we know what ABC stations will be first to join DIRECTV NOW.
According to Disney/ABC Television Group Chief Ben Sherwood, 14 ABC affiliates owned by Hearst TV stations group have agreed to be a pilot group. They will test out the technological and administrative template that ABC will use for the almost 200 other ABC stations that have agreed to join DIRECTV NOW and ABC.
The following are the ABC affiliates that Hearst TV owns:
- Fort Smith, Fayetteville, Rogers – KHBS
- Salinas, Monterey, Santa Cruz – KSBW
- Tequesta, West Palm Beach – WPBF
- Savannah – WJCL
- Poland Springs, Portland – WMTW
- Boston – WCVB
- Jackson – WAPT
- Kansas City – KMBC
- Omaha – QUARTER
- Manchester – WMUR
- Albuquerque – Boat
- Oklahoma City – KOCO
- Pittsburgh – WTAE
- Milwaukee – WISN
We did a quick check for a few of these stations with the DIRECTV NOW local channel finder. So far nothing popped up for them; however, that should be no surprise as we explained in a recent post why this is taking so long.
The good news is we now know what stations will be the first to be added. Once they are added, we should see other stations start to flood into DIRECTV NOW and PlayStation Vue.
