Last week AT&T made service announcements about DIRECTV NOW; however, the announcement about the price increase drowned out all the other DIRECTV NOW news.

In the same email with the DIRECTV NOW price hike were several other announcements including new parental controls and new device support.

Here is everything they listed as coming soon to DIRECTV NOW:

  • Option to subscribe to 100 hours True Cloud DVRBETA
  • Parental control features
  • More ways to stream on your favorite devices
  • More local channels

A few of these we have known for some time. The new 100-hour DVR add-on is reportedly coming out later this summer. DIRECTV NOW has been talking about more local channels for a while. (It is also something they have been following through on over the last few months.)

The big news here includes the more ways to stream and the parental controls. The more devices likely points to the long hinted at Xbox and Android TV support. For some time DIRECTV NOW has listed Xbox as coming soon. There has also been reports that AT&T is working on an Android TV box for their new DIRECTV streaming version.

The other interesting news is something we have not heard DIRECTV NOW talk about recently: parental controls. Parental controls are something that many streaming services lack and has held some back from moving to cord cutting. Although some services offer them, DIRECTV NOW seems to want to make parental controls a main selling point for their service.

Beyond the summer release date for the 100 hours of DVR we do not know when the rest of this will happen. We will have to wait and see.
