DIRECTV Launches New Loyalty Program Called Perks

DIRECTV on Wednesday unveiled a new customer loyalty program that rewards you the longer you stay with the service.

The pay-TV provider introduced Perks, a program that lets you earn “tokens” each month you’re an active customer. Those tokens can then be exchanged for different kinds of merchandise, as well as discounts on bills and movie rentals. You can also use them to enter sweepstakes for bigger prizes.

The program, which launched with little fanfare, comes on the heels of T-Mobile’s own launch of its rewards program, Magenta Status. It also offers perks like discounted gas and $5 movie tickets, although all customers are automatically enrolled and have immediate access to the benefits. But Perks emerges at a time when companies have pulled back on the benefits they offer to subscribers, like airline companies making it harder to upgrade their status.

Like those airlines, DIRECTV divides you up by your tenure. Customers on the service for less than two years are called Rising Stars, while A-Listers have been on for two to five years, and Superstars have been loyal for five to 10 years. Finally, there’s Icon status for customers who have been around for a decade or longer.

The tier you’re on dictates how many tokens you get each month. You can also earn tokens just by signing up and providing your birthday info and enable push notifications on the app. You also get bonus tokens on your birthday.

You can’t hoard the tokens, and have about 12 months to use them or lose them.

The first two weeks of the contest, coined “14 Days of Love,” include daily chances to win gift cards to Amazon, DoorDash, DICK’s Sporting Goods, and Best Buy.
