DIRECTV is Suffering a Satellite Issue, Causing Customers to Be Unable to Watch HD TV

Are you a DIRECTV customer? You may have noticed your TV signal stopped working earlier today. This has been caused by a satellite that is reportedly malfunctioning and is out of position. Because of this some DIRECTV satellite TV customers have been unable to watch their shows.

Update: A DIRECTV Spokesperson has confirmed to Cord Cutters News that the service has been restored. In a statement DIRECTV said
“Following a space event, our team of engineers and rocket scientists repositioned the satellite and have successfully restored all channels.”

DIRECTV in encouraging impacted customers to start streaming their channels instead of using the satellite service.

Here is the statement DIRECTV posted on social media about the outage:

Update: Some satellite customers are temporarily unable to watch HD channels because of a satellite positioning issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate our customers’ patience while we work to bring the satellite back online. In the meantime, satellite customers can watch their programming through the DIRECTV app on mobile devices and connected TVs, or by activating SignalSaver via an internet connection on a capable set-top box. http://bit.ly/SignalSaver

It is unknown for how long this issue will last, but reports are it may be some time before a resolution is found that will restore HD channels to DIRECTV satellite customers.

In a statement to Cord Cutters News DIRECTV said “Some satellite customers are temporarily unable to watch HD channels because of a satellite positioning issue. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate our customers’ patience while we work to bring the satellite back online. In the meantime, satellite customers can watch their programming through the DIRECTV app on mobile devices and connected TVs, or by activating SignalSaver on an internet-connected capable set-top-box.”

DIRECTV via internet and DIRECTV STREAM customers are not impacted by this outage.
