Here is our review of the new Fire TV stick 4K Max:

Is the 2023 Fire TV Stick 4K Max better than the older version?

In short, it is better and for most, the improved WiFi will be the most noticeable change. Not only is it WiFi 6E a newer standard but on the 2023 Fire TV Stick 4K Max did a far better job picking up my weak WiFi in my review lab.

Over all this version is better but you likely won’t notice a massive improvement if all you are doing is using it to watch movies and TV shows. If you have an older HD Fire TV Stick you will see a noticeable improvement in the speed and performance of the Max over most older Fire TV Sticks.

What is new in the Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2023?

One of the biggest improvements is the Fire TV ambient experience that will turn your TV into a work of art when you are not using it. You can also put widgets on the screen to have the weather and other features on your TV. This feature has already been on the Fire TV smart TVs, but now it is coming to the Fire TV Stick 4K Max. Later this year, your Fire TV on select devices will also turn your family photos into a work of art on your TV.

This turns that big black box on your wall into a work of art when you are not watching TV.

Amazon also announced a newly improved continue-watching row on the home screen to show you everything you have been watching across many major streaming services.

Final Thoughts

If you have used the Fire TV in the past, you will be right at home. This newly improved Fire TV Stick 4K Max is a nice step forward, but the user interface, apps, and more are mostly unchanged.

If you are happy with your Fire TV right now I wouldn’t upgrade but if you want to buy a new Fire TV the Fire TV Stick 4K Max should be at the top of your list.
