What to Know About 3ICE
For anyone unfamiliar with the format, 3ICE is not traditional hockey. The league was founded in 2022 as the first professional league dedicated exclusively to elite three-on-three ice hockey. Instead of five skaters and a goalie, each team uses just three skaters and a goaltender, creating more open ice, more breakaways, and more one-on-one chances. The games are also shorter, with two eight-minute periods of continuous play, which keeps the pace high from start to finish.
The unorthodox setup of the 8-team league is exactly what makes 3ICE so easy to market on streaming. The blend of speed, skill, attacking play, and nonstop action, with a lineup of former NHL players, international stars, and top European professionals, gives fans a chance to see recognizable names in a faster, more condensed version of the sport.
“Partnering with a global, world-class platform like DAZN is a tremendous milestone for 3ICE. This partnership is incredibly exciting for our fans, players, coaches and commercial partners, and it gives audiences around the world the opportunity to experience the speed, skill and nonstop excitement that make 3ICE unlike anything else in hockey,” said E.J. Johnson, 3ICE CEO and Founder.
The addition of the upstart hockey league strengthens DAZN’s lineup at a time when the company is clearly trying to position itself as a broader global sports hub. With a catalog that already spans football, boxing, motorsport, basketball, soccer, and more, the service offers a variety of sports from around the world in one place.
