Cutting the cable connection to coax connector illustrating retired people cancelling cable TV service2016 is almost over but there are still many big rumors that remain unanswered. So lets take a look back at some of the biggest rumors about cord cutting that happened in 2016 but so far nothing has come from it.

So which rumors are true and which are false?

Disney Buying Netflix

The Disney buying Netflix rumor has been around for months; however, nothing seems to ever come from it. All we get is “no comment” from the companies. Several large reputable sites have posted that sources say there have been talks. You also see pundits coming out left and right saying Disney should buy Netflix.

So is this true or just a rumor? It seems that at some point there were talks about Disney buying at least a stake in Netflix; however, either both companies are keeping it on lockdown or the talks have stalled. We do know Disney wants to buy something online and it had looked at Twitter only to back out late in the process.

Sunday NFL Ticket Online

Last fall it came out that DirecTV was looking at offering the as a subscription service.

So is this true or just a rumor? We can confirm that DirecTV took a survey of past Sunday NFL Ticket subscribers asking if they would come back if DirecTV offered an online option. For now this seems to just be in the research stage and may or may not happen.

Amazon Taking on Sling TV with a Live TV service

It was reported earlier this year that code for live TV showed up in a Fire TV update. There has also been rumors that Amazon was looking at a Sling TV-like service, but things have died off recently on this front.

So is Amazon about to offer live TV? Well yes and no… It seems that Amazon would like to offer live events but has shifted from the crowded live TV online market to offering live coverage of sports. Details are thin but we do know Amazon is in talks with many popular sports to offer an online subscription through Amazon to watch many popular sports.

Apple’s Live TV Service

For years it has been rumored that Apple was planning to offer a live TV service that would wipe out cable; however, these rumors have been slowly dying off (although you still hear them from time to time).

So is this true or a rumor? At the end of 2016 it is clear that Apple did try to have a live TV streaming service but has given up. It seems Apple was unable to come to a deal with many content owners.
