Cord Cutting Claims its First Victim As a Montana Cable Telecommunications Company Shuts Down

Cutting the cable connection to coax connector illustrating people cancelling cable TV serviceThis week cord cutting claimed its first victim as the Montana Cable Telecommunications Association announced it is shutting down after 60 years. When talking about why it is shutting down the Montana Cable Telecommunications Association listed “cord cutters” and programming rate pressure as the reasons for disbanding.

“We thank all those who have supported us through the years,” said Kristin Bekker, product developer at Nemont and president of MCTA’s board. “This is a sad day for us, but we will do our best individually as Montana companies to keep the spirit of MCTA alive and to work together on important state issues as best as we can.”

Other cable TV have already announced plans to stop offering TV, but this is one of the first cable TV companies to just shut down and list cord cutting as a reason.

“While this is a day we never hoped would come for MCTA, I have all of the confidence in the world in our members to give Montanans the broadband and communications services they demand and deserve and to make their voices heard in our capital,” he said.

Reports have been out that cord cutting has been putting pressure on small and even midsize cable TV companies. Even large ones like AT&T are feeling the pain as AT&T reported that they have lost over 700,000 subscribers in just the 2nd quarter of 2019.
