One of the main complaints against cord cutting is the need to subscribe to 10+ services to get everything you and your family want to watch. An October 2024 survey of more than 1,000 Cord Cutters News readers shows most cord cutters pay for four or fewer streaming services.

According to our readers, 75.6% of cord cutters pay for four or fewer streaming services. That number is up from 63.3% that said they paid for four or fewer streaming services in Spring 2024.

According to our readers, 60.5% of them pay for three or fewer streaming services, which is up from 47.3% in the Spring.

The number of cord cutters paying for two or fewer streaming services is also growing with 43.2% of cord cutters paying for two or fewer services. That is up from 27.3% that paid for two or fewer streaming services in the Spring.

So, what would four streaming services cost every month for the average cord cutter? (Why with ads? Because cable TV has ads.)

  • Disney+ is $9.99 with ads.
  • Paramount+ is $5.99 with ads.
  • Discovery+ is $4.99 with ads.
  • Netflix is $6.99 with ads.

Total Cost: $27.96 a month

These numbers must scare media companies as increasingly cord cutters are unwilling to pay for additional services. This has recently led to multiple streaming services teaming up to launch streaming bundles.

Why are there no live TV streaming services like FuboTV or Hulu with Live TV included? In short, our survey shows most cord cutters don’t pay for live TV services. If you are not a sports fan, you do not need a live TV streaming service. There is also an argument to be made that the on-demand services listed above offer more content compared to traditional cable TV.

The news that cord cutters are cutting back is bad news for streaming services that are still trying to find ways to become profitable or stay profitable.
