Later this year, Comcast will sell a smart TV called Xumo TV. This will be the first retail device Comcast has ever sold. This TV will run the same operating system as the new Xumo Streaming Box that will also be launched for Spectrum and Comcast customers. Comcast has confirmed that both devices are still scheduled to be launched later this year.
Back in January, it was announced that Element Electronics would be making a Xumo TV for Cocmast. It is possible that this will be the model sold at Walmart, but it is also possible that other manufacturers will be making that TV.
“Element is proud to partner with Xumo to bring an advanced streaming platform to market and offer another smart TV solution to our customers and consumers,” said Vlad Kazhdan, President, Element Electronics. “We look forward to building our brand partnership and providing consumers access to amazing technology and content at an incredible value.”
“Element and Xumo share a common vision of delivering consumers premium, innovative entertainment experiences at a tremendous value,” said Marcien Jenckes, President, Xumo.
The Xumo Box will be a rebranded version of their Comcast Flex streaming player running their X1 OS. Xumo is likely a name you may know as it is also the name of the free ad-supported streaming services Comcast purchased back in 2020. The streaming player will only be available to Comcast and Spectrum customers this year.
This will be the second version of its smart TVs Comcast has sold at Walmart. Back in 2021, Comcast and Hisense built the XClass TV. Right now these XClass TVs are on sale for $248 for a 50″ TV at Walmart.
The app store on the Xfinity TV still may not be as large as Roku or the Fire TV, but it does offer most of the major streaming services, and even some Roku does not offer, like YouTube Kids.
