Comcast Cable Truck

Last year for the first time both Spectrum and Comcast lost internet customers in the same quarter. Cord cutting 2.0 has been driving people away from traditional internet providers to new fiber, 5G Home Internet, and even satellite internet options. This comes as the Affordable Connectivity Program ran out of money this year, forcing many to find less expensive internet options.

Increasingly, this has driven cable TV companies to offer less expensive internet options without data caps but also slower speeds.

A study from MoffettNathanson suggests that cable TV companies will see internet customers start to return in 2026 but at a far lower rate.

According to the report, cable TV companies will lose another 427,000 broadband customers in the third quarter of 2024. This is part of more than 2 million subscribers that they are expected to lose in 2024 and over 1 million in 2025.

Cable TV companies are hoping to gain subscribers by expanding into more rural parts of America to reach more clients.

These are all predictions for now and raise the question of whether customers will be willing to return to cable TV companies even if the deals are better when customers will have so many new internet providers to choose from.
