Comcast NBCUniversal and NBCUniversal Local announced the return of the NBCUniversal Local Impact Grants on March 11, marking the eighth consecutive year of the initiative in 2025. This competitive grant program will distribute $2.5 million in unrestricted funds to eligible 501(c)(3) nonprofits across 11 markets served by NBC- and Telemundo-owned stations in the United States. The grants will support organizations in three key areas: youth education and empowerment, next generation storytellers, and community engagement.
Nonprofits interested in applying can submit their applications from March 11 through April 11 via localimpactgrants.com or the Spanish-language site becasdeimpactolocal.com, where additional details about the program are also available. Winners of the grants will be revealed later this year.
Valari Staab, Chairman of NBCUniversal Local, emphasized the program’s importance, stating, “There are many tremendous nonprofits that contribute to the wellbeing of our communities and serve those in need, and our local grants program is a meaningful way for us to support and recognize their work.” Staab highlighted the pride in partnering with Comcast NBCUniversal to deliver critical funding to deserving organizations, noting the program’s continued growth and impact.
Since its inception in 2018, the NBCUniversal Local Impact Grants have awarded $18.5 million to 546 organizations, including 76 nonprofits that received a combined $2.5 million in 2024. The initiative targets communities in major markets such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas-Fort Worth, Washington, D.C., Boston, San Francisco, Miami, San Diego, and Hartford, Connecticut.
Jessica Clancy, Senior Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility at NBCUniversal, underscored the company’s commitment to the program. “It’s crucial that we continue to support organizations that are making a positive impact across our local communities,” Clancy said. “We’re excited to continue our Local Impact Grants program alongside NBCU Local to provide nonprofits with the funding they need to carry out their missions and vital work.”
To qualify, nonprofits must be headquartered or operate programs in one of the participating markets, serve that market, and have total expenses ranging from $100,000 to $1,000,000. Eligible organizations must also address everyday community challenges within one of the three grant categories:
- Youth Education & Empowerment: Programs that provide in-school or community-based resources, including STEM/STEAM education and youth entrepreneurship, to help young people thrive.
- Next Generation Storytellers: Initiatives that create opportunities for emerging talent and youth to pursue careers in communications, arts, news, sports, and entertainment.
- Community Engagement: Efforts that promote unity by encouraging individuals to volunteer and connect within their regions.
The program includes participation from NBC- and Telemundo-owned stations such as NBC 4 and Telemundo 47 in New York, NBC4 and Telemundo 52 in Los Angeles, and NBC 5 Chicago and Telemundo Chicago, among others. This year’s grants continue a legacy of empowering local nonprofits to address pressing community needs with flexible, unrestricted funding.
