Comcast is joining forces with the Indiana Broadband Office (IBO) and the Indiana Office of Community & Rural Affairs (OCRA) to invest $55 million in expanding high-speed internet access to unserved and underserved communities across the state. This initiative marks the latest collaboration between Comcast and Indiana’s Next Level Connections broadband grant program, aiming to bridge the digital divide and empower residents and businesses.
“Ensuring all Hoosiers have access to the fastest, most reliable Internet available continues to be a top priority for Comcast,” said Joni Hart, Vice President of Government Affairs for Comcast Indiana.
Bridging the Digital Divide
The joint investment will enable Comcast to extend its network infrastructure to rural areas in Boone, Morgan, Shelby, Miami, Delaware, Fayette, and Rush counties. This expansion will provide residents and businesses in these communities with access to reliable, high-speed internet, opening up opportunities for education, economic development, and improved quality of life.
Collaborative Effort
“Our goal is to ensure that every Indiana resident has access to high-speed, reliable, affordable broadband access,” said Indiana Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch. “Connecting every corner of Indiana will require policymakers, community leaders, and service providers to work together to close the digital divide—with this joint investment, Comcast has committed to helping us make that happen.”
Continued Investment in Indiana
This initiative builds upon Comcast’s ongoing investments in Indiana’s broadband infrastructure. Over the past three years, the company has invested over $500 million to enhance internet speeds, expand WiFi availability, and bridge the digital divide in rural areas.
Expanding Access
Comcast plans to continue expanding its network to more underserved communities in Indiana through a combination of private funding, state and local partnerships, and participation in the federal Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program.
Positive Impact
This collaborative effort between Comcast, the IBO, and OCRA is expected to have a significant positive impact on Indiana residents and businesses. By expanding access to high-speed internet, the initiative aims to promote economic growth, enhance educational opportunities, and improve the overall quality of life for those in underserved communities.
