Payments from Apple’s $5 million class action settlement over alleged battery throttling have started hitting bank accounts. According to MacRumors, some people have received payments of $92.17 for their claims.

“Distribution commenced on January 6, 2024. Payments are being sent on a rolling basis, and distribution is expected to conclude at the end of January 2024,” an update posted to the settlement website on Tuesday said.

In 2020, Apple agreed to pay $500 to settle a 2017 class action lawsuit that accused the tech giant of deliberately reducing the performance of some iPhone models without properly informing users in the iOS 10.2.1 update release notes. This would often lead consumers to buy replacement devices or batteries.

Apple later apologized for the lack of transparency and temporarily dropped iPhone battery replacements to $29 in 2018.

According to the settlement website, current or previous U.S. owners of iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S, 6S Plus, and/or SE device that ran on iOS 10.2.1 or later before December 21, 2017 could qualify for a settlement payment. U.S. owners of an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus device that ran iOS 11.2 or later before December 21, 2017 were also eligible.
